Certificate for “work-and-family audit”

The effective reconciliation of work and family provides employers today with important information about the ever-changing labour market and demographic changes. As a family company, this topic is naturally very important to us.

In 2015, Mäurer & Wirtz was recognised in Berlin for its commitment in reconciling work and family with a certificate in the “work-and-family audit”. Previously, we successfully completed the auditing process which serves as a strategic management instrument for sustainable family-conscious personnel policy. The certificate received from “berufundfamilie gGmbH“ – an initiative by the non-profit Hertie Foundation – was presented to us by Iris Gleicke, Parliamentary State Secretary to the German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy and Stefan Becker, CEO of berufundfamilie gGmbH.

For us here at Mäurer & Wirtz, the term “family” includes all forms of permanent private cohabitation. This cohabitation is cross-generational and characterised by the appreciation of and responsibility for one another. In addition to the “classic” family definition, we also recognise single parents, unmarried and same-sex unions with or without children, elderly relatives (those in need of care or otherwise) as well as patchwork and foster families. Our definition is a very broad and quite modern concept of family. From now on, we will work with our auditor annually to coordinate the achievement of future measures and plan the implementation of additional innovative resolutions in the three years until the next audit.

Mäurer & Wirtz and the region: an international connection

When you decide on Mäurer & Wirtz as an employer, you will work in Stolberg – unless you are working as a sales representative – a city in the Aachen suburban region. This is where our long-standing company headquarters are located. Stolberg is not far from the tri-border-region between Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Because of its prime location, larger cities such as Maastricht, Roermond, Cologne and Düsseldorf can be easily visited. This allows for a diverse leisure and cultural programme.
