New look for the 55th anniversary
Tabac Original is a milestone in the history of German men’s fragrances and one of the most successful men’s fragrances in Germany since its market launch in 1959. 2014 is the right time for a new look to mark the 55th anniversary of the Tabac Original men’s range. The traditional design has literally been straightened out.

The new design
No future without a past – the words ‘Since 1959’ have been added to the bottle and folding box to create a link to Tabac Original’s tradition. A round, deeply embossed watermark on the top of the folding box and a new logo showing the iconic amphora shape complete the new design. This deliberately honours the tradition and history of Tabac Original and underpins the promise of quality. The new look is modern, rejuvenated and yet familiar. The former shiny copper-brown color of the logo and cap has been replaced by a masculine brown and refined with a high-quality matt effect. The legendary amphora shape of Tabac Original continues to take center stage. The ‘Tabac Original’ lettering appears much clearer and more contemporary when straightened. In addition, the outer packaging has a higher proportion of white, which emphasizes the cosmetic appearance. The existing design will be gradually replaced by the new version in stores from July.

The new campaign
Extensive communication measures accompany the changeover to the new Tabac Original look. The campaign focuses on the brand essence and starts with the name element ‘Original’. In the key visual, Tabac Original enters into a striking dialogue with its users: ‘You are the original’. The high proportion of white in the key visual deliberately emphasizes the product. In addition to an extensive print campaign, there will also be a new, dynamic TV advert after a long time.

The traditional fragrance
The successful fragrance composition will of course remain. Tabac Original is a striking, tangy and spicy fragrance composition that is characterised by precious woods, musk, ambergris and floral notes.

  • Top notes: pepper, petitgrain, lemon, bergamot, neroli
  • Heart notes: lavender, chamomile, geranium, oak wood absolute
  • Base notes: clove, sandalwood, vetiver, musk, ambergris
